Keldon was born in Caemlyn and lived there his whole life, not even leaving the city once. His parents owned a small exchange shop in the inner city, where they would buy goods from farmers and merchants and resell them. They were not wealthy by any means, but they managed. Keldon knew that he would not be any king and would probably end up inheriting his parents? shop, so all throughout his childhood, when he was not helping out at the shop, he did not care to do anything but spar with quarterstaffs.
His build was perfect for the quarterstaff-slight, quick, yet moderately strong, almost nobody could stand to his lightning-fast stabs and powerful slashes. His greatest challenger was his best friend, Kaeman Trylor. Living less than a block away, Kaeman was always ready for a good fight. Though stronger than Keldon, Keldon was a little faster and simply a better fighter. It was fighting Kaeman in a tournament when his life was changed.
Coincidentally, they had ended up fighting each other in the finals of the tournament. Keldon had the edge that time, and knocked his friend down on the ground. Keldon, walking over to Kaeman to finish him if he got back up, was suddenly knocked back by a powerful?something. He would later find out that Kaeman could channel, and that what had knocked him back was something of the Power.
This incident affected Keldon in an odd way. Instead of taking it hard that he had lost a friend, he began to think about whether he wanted to do something more with his life. He found that he would not be satisfied running a trade store the rest of his life?he needed the action that had filled his childhood.
This decision was made for him when one night, two burglars broke a window and snuck into their shop. On this particular night Keldon was staying over at a girl?s house, but his parents went downstairs to see what was happening. Seeing that there was in fact somebody in the house, the burglars stabbed and killed his parents. Too young, and too devastated by the loss of his parents, Keldon could not run the store and had nowhere to go.
Having no living relatives that he knew of, Keldon set out-he didn?t know where he would be headed. He tried to settle down in a few places, attempting at apprenticeship at a number of professions, but he realized that none of it was for him. His travels eventually took him to Tar Valon, where he saw yet another opportunity as a Tower Trainee.
