Norowhin was abandoned in the streets of Maradon at the age of 6. He then resorted to thievery to survive. He would never steal lots of money from a single person and he only stole what he needed to survive. One day, when he was 9 years old, he tried to steal from a merchant?s caravan leaving Maradon; the merchant would never realise a couple of coins missing from his chest full of money. He easily got past the merchant's guards and went into the merchant's wagon. He rapidly snatched some coins from the chest. While putting the coins in his pockets, the merchant grabbed Norowhin by the arm and asked him what he thought he was doing stealing from that chest. Norowhin told him why he stole and begged for his life. The merchant was surprised that the kid was scared of being killed. He decided he would adopt the poor child. Tumad was the merchant?s name and he was getting old. He needed some help with his caravan. He started to like Norowhin and started teaching him how to trade since he had decided to let him handle the caravan when he would be too old. Tumad decided could do as well as any son he could have had. However, when Norowhin was 13, Tumad rapidly realised that his son wasn't interested in trading; Norowhin would always go see the guards and stare at their weapons. Norowhin said he wanted to be a soldier when he was older. Tumad couldn't stop his son from doing what he wanted so he told him he could become another of the caravan?s guards. He wanted the best for his son so Tumad brought the caravan to Tar Valon for some unknown reason when Norowhin got 16. Tumad then told him wouldn't be a simple soldier...he would become one of the best?he would become a warder.
